1976 Britain Delta Wing Bomber Airplane?
In 1976 when I was visiting Chicago, they had an air show over the lake front which was spectacular.
In the show was a Delta Wing configuration heavy bomber plane that was from Britain. I recall the size of it was tremendous, and the grace it had seem during it's flight exercises and was a real crowd pleaser! I also recall a few years later, reading about the plane being permanently grounded because of control issues. Does anyone know the name of this plane I saw? Thanks for any responses.

What you probably saw was the British Avro Vulcan Strategic bomber. Vulcans frequently visited the United States during the 1960s and 1970s to participate in air shows and static displays, as well as to participate in the Strategic Air Command's Annual Bombing and Navigation Competition at such locations as Barksdale AFB, Louisiana and the former McCoy AFB, Florida, with the RAF crews representing Bomber Command and later Strike Command. Vulcans also took part in the 1960, 1961, and 1962 Operation Skyshield exercises, in which NORAD defences were tested against possible Soviet air attack, the Vulcans simulating Soviet fighter/bomber attacks against New York, Chicago and Washington. The results of the tests were classified until 1997.

The Avro Vulcan is a delta wing subsonic jet bomber that was operated by the Royal Air Force from 1953 until 1984. The Vulcan was part of the RAF's V bomber force, which fulfilled the role of nuclear deterrence against the Soviet Union during the Cold War. It was also used in a conventional bombing role during the Falklands conflict with Argentina.
136 Vulcan bombers were built.
